Rostec launches second unit of Udarnaya Thermal Power Plant

MOSCOW. April 1 (Interfax) - Technopromexport (part of the Rostec Group) has launched the second power unit of the Udarnaya TPP (Krasnodar Territory), Rostec said.

The first power unit began operation in March 2024. Its total power supply to the energy market is now 456 MW.

The Udarnaya TPP, with a capacity of 560 MW, is being built to participate in the competitive selection mechanism for new generation capacity. The project uses the Russian GTD-110M large gas turbine, manufactured by UEC (also part of Rostec).

The project's payback will come from payments made by industrial energy market consumers. However, the selection mechanism also implies penalties for failure to fulfill capacity supply obligations on time.

The Udarnaya TPP was originally planned to start up in April 2021, but due to a reconfiguration of the project, the deadline was postponed until 2023, and again until 2024.

In this regard, the Russian Energy Ministry came up with a systematic certification mechanism for the station. "They will produce power from two turbines, and another GTD-110M turbine will be built in May 2024. If they don't build it, then we will take everything they received for the first two turbines," Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Snikkars told reporters in the fall of 2023.
