Azerbaijan's state oil company ready to ship gas to Romania through 2026

BAKU. April 1 (Interfax) - SOCAR, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan, is ready to extend the existing contract for gas supplies to Romania by two years through 2026, SOCAR Vice President Elshad Nasirov said.

"The contract [for gas supplies to Romania] expired yesterday, on March 31. Under the contract, SOCAR supplied 1 bcm of gas without any binding conditions. We are ready to extend the contract for this and next year," Nasirov said on Monday in Baku at a meeting of the joint Azerbaijani-Romanian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic relations and scientific and technical cooperation.

As reported, SOCAR entered into an agreement with Romgaz S.A. on December 16, 2022 for the supply of Azerbaijani gas starting in 2023. The spot short-term contract provided for SOCAR to supply up to 300 mcm from January 1 through April 1, 2023.

SOCAR and Romgaz S.A. signed an agreement on Azerbaijani gas supplies to Romania on February 3, 2023 for up to 1 bcm during the 2023-2024 period. The new contract between SOCAR and Romgaz S.A. was to be in force from April 1, 2023 through March 31, 2024.
