Ukraine becomes major chocolate exporter to EU in 2023

MOSCOW. April 1 (Interfax) - Ukraine ranked among the top three chocolate exporters to the European Union in 2023 with supplies totaling 22,000 tonnes or 13% of EU chocolate imports, Ukrainian media said, citing Eurostat.

Only Switzerland (62,000 tonnes, 36%) and the United Kingdom (61,000 tonnes, 36%) surpassed Ukraine in terms of chocolate supplies to the EU.

At the same time, EU members exported 867,000 tonnes of chocolate and chocolate bars outside the European Union.

Germany was the biggest exporter, accounting for 26% of all supplies with 221,000 tonnes of products delivered. The Netherlands ranked second with 123,000 tonnes and 14%, respectively, followed by Poland with 115,000 tonnes and 13%, and Belgium, known for its sweets, with 96,000 tonnes and 11%.

The top five non-EU partners of the exporters are the UK, which bought 315,000 tonnes of chocolate (36%) from the EU, the United States (72,000 tonnes or 8%), Russia (65,000 tonnes or 7%), Canada (31,000 tonnes or 4%), and Australia (27,000 tonnes or 3%).
