Russia and Kazakhstan continue working on Baiterek Space Complex program

MOSCOW. March 26 (Interfax) - The Russia-Kazakhstan project to establish the Baiterek Space Complex at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in order to launch the Soyuz-5 vehicle is being implemented as planned, the Russian government said on its official website.

"The project is being carried out in accordance with the previously reached agreements and the earlier signed contract," according to the statement.

The Russia-Kazakhstan intergovernmental commission on the Baiterek Complex held a meeting last Thursday with the participation of Russia's Deputy Prime Minister and Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov, Kazakh First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar, and Roscosmos CEO Yury Borisov.

The meeting participants decided on the further steps required to complete the project, according to the statement.

"The meeting participants discussed the progress of the joint project to establish the Baiterek Space Complex at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in order to launch the Soyuz-5 vehicle. This is the largest project that Russia and Kazakhstan have been conducting in the space industry. Under the project, Russia is constructing the Soyuz 5 state-of-the-art rocket- carrier. Kazakhstan is responsible for establishing the ground infrastructure and modernizing the Baiterek Space Complex," according to the statement.
