Rosatom entity could construct wind power plants of up to 1 GW in Kyrgyzstan

MOSCOW. March 26 (Interfax) - JSC NovaWind, the wind energy division of Rosatom state nuclear energy corporation, has signed an agreement with Kyrgyzstan's Energy Ministry to develop and implement a project to construct renewable energy facilities, NovaWind said on its Telegram channel.

"The subject of the agreement is developing and implementing an investment project to construct renewable energy facilities in the Kyrgyz Republic with capacity of up to 1 GW," NovaWind said.

NovaWind said that there are plans at the first stage to launch a pilot project to construct a wind farm with capacity of 100 MW in the Issyk-Kul Region.

"There are plans at the second stage to develop sites for RES facilities with overall capacity of up to 900 MW," the company said.

As previously reported, NovaWind had only been considering the possibility of constructing a 100-MW wind farm in Kyrgyzstan. Rosatom has also planned to develop a pre-feasibility study for a small nuclear power plant in Kyrgyzstan. As became known recently, there are also plans to develop and construct small hydroelectric power plants in the country.
