Criminal case opened over incident at Rusal bauxite mine in Urals

YEKATERINBURG. March 25 (Interfax) - The incident at the Kalyinskaya Mine, operated by aluminum giant Rusal's North Urals Bauxite Mine division, in which two workers were trapped in rubble following a cave-in, is being investigated as part of a criminal case, the press service of the Investigative Committee's Regional Investigative Department said.

"The Sverdlovsk Region Investigative Committee's Regional Investigative Department's Severouralsk division has opened a criminal case under Article 217 of the Criminal Code for violation of health and safety requirements for hazardous industrial sites," it said.

Rescuers have already reached one of the trapped workers.

The press service said doctors were already giving first aid to one of the trapped workers.

A cave-in at the mine occurred early Monday. Valery Gorelykh, head of the regional Interior Ministry Main Directorate press service, told Interfax, that local residents, born in 1992 and 1997, were trapped.
