EU to solve issue of using revenues from Russian assets without paying attention to possible countermeasures taken by Moscow - European Commission president

BRUSSELS. March 22 (Interfax) - The European Union will be working on using revenues from the frozen Russian assets in the interests of Ukraine, even if it provokes retaliatory measures taken by Moscow, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Friday

"We are convinced that it is the right way to go," she told a press conference, responding to a journalist's question on whether the risks of possible Russian countermeasures will be taken into account.

"Whatever Russia is doing, Russia does. This should not influence our decisions," von der Leyen said.

According to earlier reports, the leaders of the EU states at the summit in Brussels agreed to continue working on implementing the idea of using revenues from the Russian assets frozen in the EU for military assistance to Ukraine. European Council President Charles Michel told reporters in the early hours of Friday he had felt at the summit this proposal was broadly supported by the heads of state and governments of the EU states.
