Energy consumption in Russia increases 5.78% since start of year without accounting for temperature

MOSCOW. March 20 (Interfax) - Electricity consumption in Russia has increased 5.78% since the beginning of the year, without accounting for temperature, Deputy Energy Minister Yevgeny Grabchak told reporters.

"We need Monday, March 18. For March, since the beginning of the month, it is 4.27%; 5.78% since the beginning of the year. This does not take temperature into account," he said.

The year-to-date figure includes the additional day in February, he said. Without it, growth since the beginning of the year has reached 5%, he said.

As reported, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak earlier in the Energy Policy publication said that energy consumption reached 1.139 trillion kWh and production totaled 1.152 trillion kWh in Russia last year. Energy consumption totaled 1.124 trillion kWh and electricity output was estimated at 1.139 trillion kWh in 2022, as previously reported, meaning that consumption rose 1.3% year-on-year and production grew 1.14% year-on-year in 2023, according to the data presented by Novak.
