Delo Group sees recovery of container flows in Baltic Sea since start of 2024, with 2.2-fold increase in 2 months

MOSCOW. March 20 (Interfax) - Transshipment of containers through sea terminals in northwestern Russia is being actively restored, Denis Ilatovsky, first deputy general director of the Delo Group of Companies said.

"The volume of traffic through ports in the northwest is recovering. Container turnover is 121% higher in the first two months of the year than in the same period last year," he said during the TransRussia-2024 forum.

Container turnover in the northwest has not yet returned to pre-crisis levels, but February 2024 was better than any month in 2023 in terms of transshipment volumes, he said.

There has been a decrease in container traffic through ports in the Far East in 2024. Container turnover dropped 2%, and total volumes loaded by rail for export via Far Eastern ports decreased 21%. Meanwhile, exports through Mongolia and Kazakhstan have increased, Ilatovsky said.
