EU foreign ministers agree sanctions over Navalny's death

BRUSSELS. March 18 (Interfax) - The foreign ministers of the European Union countries have agreed on anti-Russian sanctions in relation to the death of Alexei Navalny, EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell told a press conference on Monday.

The sanctions lists have been extended to include 30 individuals and entities which the EU thinks were involved in the situation regarding Navalny, he said.

Previously, the media reported that sanctions would target 35 individuals and two correctional institutions where Navalny had been held.

On February 16, the Federal Penitentiary Service's branch in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Region reported the death of Navalny, serving time at Penitentiary No. 3 in Kharp, on its website. The service said he felt unwell after taking a walk, almost immediately losing consciousness. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. Navalny was buried at Moscow's Borisovskoye cemetery on March 1.
