Ukrainian industry boosts power consumption 23% between Nov 2023 and Feb 2024

MOSCOW. March 14 (Interfax) - Electricity consumption by Ukrainian industry stood at around 9.38 billion kWh during four months of the 2023-2024 heating season, which is 23% more than between November 2022 and February 2023, when it totaled 7.61 billion kWh.

"Due to the stable operations of the energy system, Ukrainian industry has increased power consumption by 23% during this heating season," Ukrainian media quoted the Energy Ministry as saying in a statement.

Electricity consumption by Ukrainian industry grew 25.75% in November 2023 year-on-year, 37.56% in December 2023 year-on-year, 27.58% in January 2024 year-on-year, and 6.17% in February 2024 year-on-year.

Electricity consumption by the population increased by almost 12% over the aforementioned period - to 12.64 billion kWh from 11.3 billion kWh.

Ukrainian power generating enterprises produced more than 41.53 billion kWh of electricity between November 2023 and February 2024, 16% up from the same period of 2022 and 2023, the ministry said.

More than half of this amount of electricity was generated by Ukraine's nuclear power plants (22.17 billion kWh), which is 22% more than in the same period of the previous heating season.

Hydropower plants' output rose 7.5% to 4.16 billion kWh, electricity production by thermal power plants went up 10% to 13 billion kWh, and output by renewable energy sources increased 25% to 2.03 billion kWh.
