Ukraine's DTEK launches 4 new coalfaces in Feb

MOSCOW. March 13 (Interfax) - DTEK Energo's coal-mining enterprises put into operation four new coalfaces in February, one of which was launched ahead of schedule.

"In just two months of 2024, the company's miners put into operation six new coalfaces, which will make it possible to meet the fuel needs of thermal power plants in the next heating season," Ukrainian media reported, quoting the energy holding's statement as saying.

"We have gone through this winter thanks to the preparations of all involved parties, namely machine builders, miners and power engineers. We are laying the foundation for the next winter. New coalfaces are a guarantee of stable coal production and, accordingly, reliable operation of the thermal generating facilities throughout the year," DTEK Energo CEO Ildar Saleyev said.

It was reported earlier DTEK Energo put 26 new coalfaces into operation in 2023. The company's investments in Ukrainian coal mining totaled around UAH 7 billion, which is almost twice as much as in 2022.

DTEK Energo provides a closed cycle of electricity generation from coal. The installed capacity at thermal power generating facilities amounted to 13.3 GW as of January 2022. A full production cycle has been established in coal mining: coal extraction and dressing, machine building and maintenance of mining equipment.
