Kazakhstan sends 15,000 tonnes of fuel oil in aid to Tajikistan

ASTANA. March 13 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan has supplied 15,000 tonnes of fuel oil to Tajikistan as humanitarian assistance, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

Kazakh Ambassador to Tajikistan Valikhan Turekhanov handed over the fuel oil certificate to Tajik State Material Reserves Agency Deputy Director Sokhibjon Ziyodulloyev on Tuesday, the statement said.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev initiated the decision to provide humanitarian aid totaling 2.542 billion tenge, or about $5.65 million, Turekhanov said.

"The Kazakhstan Agency for International Development facilities the delivery of humanitarian aid. It shows our commitment to bolstering energy security and strengthening the long-standing strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan," the statement said.

Kazakhstan has provided over $50 million in humanitarian aid to Tajikistan since 2006, the statement said.
