Ukraine fails to fully eradicate corruption - EU diplomat

MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax) - Corruption has not completely disappeared in Ukraine, but the country has institutions fighting the problem, Ukrainian media quoted Head of the European Union Delegation to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova as saying.

Speaking at a conference titled Fighting Corruption in Ukraine: Progress Towards EU Membership in Kiev on Monday, Maternova said that, while the Ukrainian public did not previously consider corruption to be a high priority problem, now it sees it as the second most important problem after security, which provides pressure and shows that the people's values have changed.

She encouraged Ukraine to work systematically to eradicate corruption.

While corruption has not fully disappeared in Ukraine, the country has efficient enough institutions to tackle the problem, she said.
