Ukrainian Railways to put ticket sales for trains to Austria, Hungary online

MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Railways is transferring the sale of tickets to destinations in Austria and Hungary to online format on March 18, Ukrainian media reported, citing the company's press service.

"We are digitizing our services and making them convenient for customers. We managed to reach agreements with Hungary and Austria on online sale of tickets for trains as a result of lengthy and difficult work," Ukrainian Railways CEO Yevgeny Lyaschenko said.

The project implementation will result in more international train services becoming available online, he said. Passengers will not need to go to ticket offices to buy a ticket and plan their trip.

The company's CEO also said he hoped that, as regards the Kiev-Warsaw route, shifting to a new format of ticket sales will make them inaccessible for resellers.

The purchase of tickets for the direct Kiev-Vienna train in the Ukrainian Railways application will be available after verifying the account via Diya.Signature, the statement said.

At the first stage, online tickets will be available for destinations in Austria and back. At the second stage, online tickets will be available for destinations in Hungary, including for trains that transit to Austria along the Kiev-Budapest-Vienna and Chop-Budapest-Vienna routes, the company said.

Tickets for Ukraine-Hungary direct trains (Mukachevo-Debrecen, Mukachevo-Budapest, Chop-Zahony) will be available in the app later, the company added.

"On March 18, ticket sales will resume at the full extent of sales (20 days) and will take place online," the company said.

At the same time, the temporary restrictions will not affect the Chop-Vienna-Chop train. Tickets for this train are available for all dates, Ukrainian Railways added.

The company also noted that the new direct Vienna-Chop-Vienna train has convenient connections with night trains from Kiev, Lutsk and Rovno, and the train from Chop to Vienna consists of comfortable seated cars with Wi-Fi.
