Almost 3,000 trucks waiting to cross Belarusian-EU border

MINSK. March 12 (Interfax) - The Belarusian State Border Committee has reported that the situation is worsening on the EU border, where almost 3,000 trucks are waiting for their turn to cross over.

"Almost 3,000 trucks are waiting to cross into the EU. The border situation has been deteriorating amid the shrinking [number of] international routes and the disregard for clearance rules by the neighboring EU states," the committee said on Tuesday.

Over 2,110 trucks were waiting to cross into Lithuania as of 10 a.m., the committee said. The busiest route runs through the Medininkai (Kamenny Log) checkpoint, where only 13% of the regular number of trucks have been cleared. The share stands at 26% at the Salcininkai (Benyakoni) checkpoint, it said.
