Turkmen president highlights importance of upgrading national railway system

ASHGABAT. March 11 (Interfax) -Turkmenistan should prioritize upgrading its national railway network, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said at a government meeting, as reported by the official newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan last Friday.

Mammetkhan Chakyyev, who heads the Transport and Communications Agency of the Turkmen government, said at a government meeting last Thursday that the infrastructure of the Turkmendemiryollary (Turkmen Railways) agency was being improved, and the work being done in the country to upgrade its railway system was ongoing in line with modern standards to improve the safety of railway services.

Having listened to the report, President Berdimuhamedov said Turkmenistan was attaching special significance to systematically upgrading its railway transport infrastructure. He mentioned the importance of high-quality repairs and maintenance of the national railway network and gave a number of practical instructions to Chakyyev.
