Ukraine increases export of goods by 4.6% in Jan-Feb 2024 compared with Jan-Feb 2023 while import decreases by 1% - State Customs Service

MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - Exports of goods from Ukraine in January-February 2024 increased by 4.6% in comparison with the same period in 2023, from $6.5 billion to $6.8 billion, while import decreased by 1%, from $10.1 billion to $10 billion, Ukrainian media outlets said with a reference to information shared by the State Customs Service on social networks.

Trade increased by 2% in the first two months of 2024 compared to the same period of 2023 and reached $16.8 billion, the State Customs Service said.

The State Customs service reported that in January 2024, export grew by 9.7% from $3.1 billion in January 2023 to $3.4 and import by 6.3% from $4.8 billion to $5.1 billion. In light of these numbers, export in February remained the same as in February of the past year, $3.4 billion, whereas import decreased by 7.5% and stood at $4.9 billion.

Taxable import in January-February made up $8.8 billion or 88% of all imports and its tax burden per one kilogram was 47 cents per one kilogram, which is 5% more than in the same period of 2023, the service said.

The countries which imported the most to Ukraine in January and February 2024 are China with imports worth $2 billion, Poland ($1.1 billion), and Germany ($769 million), the State Customs Service said.

The countries Ukraine exported to the most are Poland ($649 million), Spain ($624 million), and China ($504 million).

Machinery, equipment and transport made up 67% of the total amount of goods imported to Ukraine in January-February 2024, or $3.5 billion (25.3 billion hryvni were paid during customs clearance, thus making up 31% of customs payments), chemical products worth $1.8 billion (12.8 billion hryvni paid in customs clearance fees, or 16% of customs payments), and fuel and energy products worth $1.3 billion (20 billion hryvni in customs clearance fees, or 24% of customs payments).

The three most exported goods from Ukraine are food items ($4.5 billion) and metals and products made from them ($726 million) and mineral products ($587 millions).

According to the State Customs Service, a total of 47.96 million hryvni were paid to the state budget during customs clearance of exported goods subject to export duties in January and February 2024.
