Ukraine lifts ban on import of live chickens, hatching eggs from Poland

MOSCOW. March 7 (Interfax) - Ukraine has lifted its ban on the import of hatching eggs, live chickens and unprocessed poultry products and raw stuff from Poland, the Polish Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said.

"Ukraine has lifted the restrictions imposed due to Newcastle Disease in Poland. Such a decision was published in the Ukrainian chief veterinary inspector's executive order dated February 23, 2024," Ukrainian media quoted the Polish ministry as saying on its website on Wednesday.

Ukraine's chief veterinary inspector imposed the aforementioned ban on July 13, 2023 due to Newcastle Disease registered in Poland, but later, on August 4, recognized the regionalization of the disease and narrowed the restrictions down to the virus-stricken districts determined by Poland's relevant authorities.

According to Polish media reports, the first outbreak of Newcastle Disease in 50 years was recorded on a poultry farm in the Bialystok district, which had 43,410 chickens to be slaughtered.
