Yerevan expects CSTO to recognize Armenia's int'l borders

YEREVAN. March 6 (Interfax) - Armenia's problems with the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will remain unresolved until the organization recognizes the zone of its responsibility in the country, Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan said.

"Our position on the issue of the CSTO is known. We expect the CSTO to recognize the zone of their responsibility, to recognize 29,800 square meters of Armenian territory, and also the borders that exist with Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran and Georgia. Until that is done, the problem remains," Grigoryan told reporters on Wednesday.

The Armenian-Azerbaijani border exists, he said.

"The borders of Soviet republics became interstate borders under the Almaty declaration. And this border needs to be reinstated. Armenia was and remains a member of the CSTO, and the CSTO should recognize these borders," Grigoryan said.

Grigoryan said he believes Russia as a CSTO member should specify its position on Armenia.

"Russia should specify as a CSTO member its position on Armenia. We have had discussions with the CSTO since May 2021, we said that the border with Azerbaijan exists, the CSTO said it doesn't. And they did not recognize that border, they did not condemn the occupation of Armenia's territory," Grigoryan said.
