Ukrenergo expects no electricity shortage this summer

MOSCOW. March 6 (Interfax) - No electricity shortage is expected in Ukraine in summer 2024 during the repair campaign at nuclear power plants.

Director for Management of the Ukrainian Unified Energy System (UES) and Chief Dispatcher of NEC Ukrenergo Vitaly Zaichenko said this during the Ukrainian Energy Security Dialogue organized by DIXI Group on Wednesday, as reported by Ukrainian media.

"As for the summer period, if we work in accordance with the plans we have, I mean scheduled repairs of generating equipment at nuclear power plants in the first place, we do not plan to have a shortage of electricity," Zaichenko said.

At the same time, he did not rule out that the crisis might make its adverse adjustments to the plans of power engineers, including in the summer period.

"So far, we do not envision any shortage regimes," Zaichenko said.

Currently, Ukraine's UES is operating amid increased electricity production at hydropower plants and solar power plants and increased exports to European countries.
