U.S. embassy working to resume issuing visas to Russian citizens - ambassador

MOSCOW. March 5. (Interfax) - The United States embassy in Moscow is discussing the possibility of resuming the issuing of visas to Russian citizens with the Russian government, while currently this is impossible due to staff cuts, the embassy said on Telegram.

Consular services provided at the embassy in Moscow remain limited due to the Russian government's restrictions imposed on the U.S. embassy's staff, U.S. Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy said.

The U.S. side continues to discuss this issue with the Russian government, and will seek opportunities to restore a number of consular services, including the issuing of visas to Russian citizens, Tracy said.

Tracy noted that the U.S. remains open to Russians, and Russian citizens can obtain visas in other countries.

The U.S. embassy in Moscow and the consulates in Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok ceased issuing tourist, work, student and other non-immigrant visas in 2021.
