Russian Railways launches express freight to deliver goods to Azerbaijan and Iran

YAROSLAVL. March 5 (Interfax) - Northern Railways, a Russian Railways branch, has shipped the first regular express freight from the Mikun station, Komi Republic, to the Samur export station of North Caucasus Railways, also a Russian Railways branch, for further shipment to Azerbaijan and Iran, the Northern Railways' press service said in a statement.

Express freight adheres to a schedule without processing wagons along the route, and provides expedited delivery of cargo, including small volumes, which is convenient for small- and medium-sized businesses, the press service said.

Express freight in this direction is expected to be shipped monthly this year.

Test express freight along the Mikun-Samur route was shipped in December last year, transporting timber cargo from thirteen shippers that had previously used roadway transport. The freight train was loaded at five stations in the region, including Vendinga, Verkhneizhemskaya, Chovyu, Koslan, and Troitsko-Pechorsk, with delivery in nine days, which is twice as fast as the standard delivery timeframe.
