Ukrainian ambassador calls on Polish farmers to cease border blockade
MOSCOW. March 5 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Vasily Zvarych has called on the protesting Polish farmers to cease the Polish-Ukrainian border blockade.
"I am appealing to Polish farmers to stop blocking the border with Ukraine, which is unfounded and which harms our friendly countries.
The truth is that it is not Ukraine or its agrifood products that are the source of your problems. Ukraine does not influence global food prices. Prices are determined on world exchanges," Ukrainian media quoted Zvarych as saying on his social account.
The previous blockades have caused considerable damage to Ukraine, as its economy has lost about 2 billion zloty, an equivalent of about 460 million euros, Zvarych said. The protests are also harming Polish businesses, which have maintained active trade relations with Ukraine and whose exports to Ukraine were twice the amount of Ukrainian exports to Poland in 2023, he said.
"I believe in your wisdom, your understanding, and your goodwill to end the blockade of the border with Ukraine as soon as possible," Zvarych said.
