Ukraine aims to boost exports through Danube ports to 35 mln-40 mln t in 2024

MOSCOW. March 5 (Interfax) - Ukraine plans to expand the export capacity of Danube River ports to 35 million-40 million tonnes in 2024.

"Our goal is to expand the export capacity of the Danube cluster from 33 million tonnes in 2023 to 35 million-40 million tonnes in 2024," Ukrainian media quoted Prime Minister Denis Shmygal as saying at a press conference on Monday.

Ukraine is also considering launching container shipments along the Danube, which will increase export capabilities and create an alternative to overland routes, he said.

More than 20 new cargo handling points have opened on the Danube in the past two years, making it possible to increase cargo traffic in the Danube cluster in 2023 by six times compared to 2021, Shmygal said.
