Kazakhstan and China agree to run 200 container trains, some of them via TITR
ALMATY. March 1 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's KTZ Express JSC and China's Yuxinou have signed an agreement on the movement of 200 container trains with a total carrying capacity of over 20,000 TEU through Kazakhstan, including along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), the national railway operator, said in a Friday press release.
KTZ Deputy CEO for Logistics Yerlan Koishibayev met with the leadership of the Chongqing municipality seaport and the top managers of Yuxinou (Chongqing) Logistics Co., Ltd., in Chongqing on February 29, according to the press release.
Yuxinou and KTZ has organized this year a joint train service along TITR from Chongqing to Poti, a Black Sea port in Georgia, with an average travel time of up to 14 days.
Since the beginning of 2024, KTZ has reached agreements with transportation companies from Xi'an, Jiangsu, Beijing, Zhengzhou, Chongqing to run 3,500 transit container trains through Kazakhstan, their cargo carrying capacity totaling about 350,000 TEU.
The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) is an international transport corridor that runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and further to Turkey and European countries. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is part of the corridor. The capacity of TITR is expected to reach 10 million tonnes of cargo a year by 2025.
KTZ Express JSC is a multimodal logistics company which specializes in import, export and transit transportation of goods. KTZ Express is wholly owned by Kazakhstan Temir Zholy.
Kazakhstan Temir Zholy is a transport, warehousing and distribution company, which is part of Kazakhstan's National Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna. KTZ operates the country's railways, the infrastructure of seaports and airports, transportation and warehousing facilities.
Yuxinou is a largest transport company in Chongqing, which operates over 2,500 trains a year in the western and eastern directions.
