Russia's Meteor M satellite sends first image of Earth - Roscosmos
MOSCOW. March 1 (Interfax) - The Meteor-M 2-4 weather satellite, launched from Vostochny Cosmodrome on Thursday, has sent its first image of Earth, Roscosmos said on Friday.
"The first image was taken by the MSU-MR low-resolution multi-spectral scanning device in orbit today," the corporation said on Telegram.
The device is designed for wide-area surveying of cloud and ice cover, with a field of view of up to 2,900 kilometers.
A Soyuz-2.1b rocket, launched from Vostochny, put Meteor-M 2-4 into orbit on February 29.
Meteor-M is a class of weather satellites designed to monitor the ozone layer's thickness, radiation levels in near-Earth space, and sea surface conditions, including ice patterns.
