Russia‘s best universities ranked by socialization and internationalization
MOSCOW. Oct 31 (Interfax) - Interfax International Information Services Group has presented the results of a rating of Russia‘s universities in terms of the development of their social environment and international cooperation with universities and research organizations in other parts of the world. Universities were assessed according to these parameters within the context of the National Rating of Universities 2016 (NRU).
The rating leaders in development of the social environment were the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (Ranepa), Kazan Federal University, the Higher School of Economics National Research University (HSE), Novosibirsk State University and RUDN University.
The greatest advances in NRU-2016 by the measure of Socialization were made by Moscow State University of Railway Engineering (MIIT), Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU), Samara State Aerospace University (SSAU) and St. Petersburg Mining University, among others. The rating of the country‘s universities in development of the social environment partially reflects how active university administrations have been in the process of carrying out the decrees that the Russian president issued in May 2012.

The NRU-2016 leaders in development of international cooperation are RUDN University, Novosibirsk State University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Higher School of Economics National Research University and Moscow State University.
Universities that are participating in Project 5-100 program to increase the international competitiveness of Russian universities, as well as prestigious universities, are being the most active in developing international cooperation.
Tomsk can be considered to be the leading Russian city in the development of academic international cooperation. All Tomsk universities showed strong results in the rating.

The 2016 National Rating of Universities by Socialization and Internationalization includes 238 Russian universities, including 2 national universities, 10 federal universities, 29 national research universities, 11 support universities, 66 classical universities (including 1 private university), 57 technical and technology universities (including architecture and construction, transportation and mining universities and a private university), 12 economic universities (including 2 private), 24 agricultural universities, 9 pedagogical and linguistics universities, and 13 medical universities.
The method of assessment for the activities of universities in the development of the social environment and international cooperation includes an assessment of the following indicators: average wage of academic staff; organization of social assistance for students and continuing education; university‘s participation in the development and implementation of the social and economic development programs of the country, region and city; implementation of social programs by universities; foreign student population; university representatives‘ participation in international conferences; development of academic and research cooperation; and implementation of joint education programs.
Interfax International Information Services Group began the National Rating of Universities project 2010 with the primary goal of developing the tools and procedures of an independent system to assess Russian post secondary institutions and their education programs, increase the competitiveness of Russia‘s system of higher education, academic research and technology entrepreneurship, and develop federal and regional universities, which are considered the backbone of the country‘s new economy.
