Interfax tops ratings as most frequently cited Russian news agency

Interfax remained at the top of the ratings list of three major news agencies working in Russia, cited most frequently in leading foreign and Russian media in the first half of 2013, according to data provided by the Factiva database of thousands of top news and business sources from 200 countries, and the SCAN system for the comprehensive analysis of newswires from 8,660 sources.

Tree major Russian news agencies - Interfax, RIA Novosti and ITAR-TASS - were rated in the following groups on the Factiva database:
               - Major international information agencies Reuters, Dow Jones, AFP, DPA, EFE, ANSA and Xinhua;
               - BBC radio
               - U.S. Newspapers
               - UK Newspapers
               - German Media Minus Information Agencies
               - French Media Minus Information Agencies
               The same three news agencies were rated in the following groups based on the SCAN system:
               - All Russian media (3,102 sources covered by the SCAN system.) To make the results of the survey reliable and objective, the agencies‘ own information products were excluded, along with blogs and Internet resources that have no media status, as well as press digests.
               - Russia‘s central and federal printed media (407 of the most highly reputed newspapers and magazines).
               - Federal television and radio stations (193 sources, including Channel One, Rossiya television, NTV, REN-TV, TVC, Radio Russia, Radio Mayak, Voice of Russia radio, Ekho Moskvy radio, Russian News Service radio, Radio Vesti-FM, Radio City-FM, and Radio Kommersant).
               - Regional printed media in Russia‘s most densely populated regions (Bashkortostan, Volgograd, Voronezh, Irkutsk, and Kemerovo regions, Krasnodar and Krasnoyarsk territories, Nizhny Novgorod and Novosibirsk regions, Perm and Primorye territories, Rostov, Samara, St. Petersburg, Saratov and Sverdlovsk regions, Tatarstan, Khabarovsk Territory and Chelyabinsk region - 1,185 sources in all).
 
INTERNATIONAL MEDIA
 
In the "Major International Information Agencies" group Interfax is ahead of RIA-Novosti and ITAR-TASS as the most frequently quoted news agency in all sources, according to Factiva.

               In the "U.S. Newspapers" group Interfax had 431 hits in the first half of 2013, RIA Novosti 222 and ITAR-TASS 125.
               In the "UK Newspapers" group Interfax had 288 hits, RIA Novosti 187 and ITAR-TASS 96, according to Factiva.
               The rating is approximately the same in the "German Media Minus Information Agencies" group, which quoted Interfax 815 times, ITAR-TASS 197 times and RIA Novosti 114 times.
               French media, except information agencies, carried 244 references to Interfax , 131 to RIA Novosti and 97 to ITAR-TASS, according to the Factiva database.
