Interfax, Sport-Express set up sports news agency

The leading Russian sports newspaper Sport-Express and the largest Russian private news agency, Interfax, have announced the creation of a sports news agency.
The new agency, called Sport Express-Interfax, aims to create and promote a specialized online edition - a sports newswire covering sports events in Russia and abroad.
"Thousands of Interfax subscribers - politicians, business people, journalists - are fans of various sports. And they have long been asking us to provide more extensive coverage of sports events on our newswires. With the emergence of a new strategic partner, we shall be able to not only improve significantly the news content delivered to our clients, but also to expand the volume of sports information which is, in particular, openly available on the agency‘s website. For its part, Sport-Express will be able to occupy a new market niche which targets both professionals and mass media," said Mikhail Komissar, the General Director at the Interfax news agency.
"For the first time, Sport-Express is entering the sports news market in the B2B segment. I think that pooling together their capabilities will enable Sport-Express Holding and Interfax Group to become the leader on the sports news market not only in Russia but in the entire post-Soviet space," said Ivan Rubin, the General Director at Sport-Express.
