INTERFAX again mosy frequently cited agency in forgein, domestic media

            Interfax maintains its leadership among news agencies operating in Russia in terms of the frequency with which it is cited in top foreign and Russian media outlets, according to results of a study for 2010, based on the analysis of reports possessed by LexisNexis and Factiva, the major international bases of international media, as well as on the basis of Interfax‘s own SCAN comprehensive news analysis system.
            Interfax had the highest rating of citations among the three leading Russian news agencies in world media outlets in 2010, based on the analysis of reports from the LexisNexis archive, which operates 37,000 international information sources, and Factiva (35,000 leading news and business information sources), and the SCAN system including 3,100 central and regional sources
            The 847 major world printed media outlets from the LexisNexis database quoted Interfax 11,475 times, RIA Novosti 7,324 times and Itar-Tass 3,084 times in 2010.
            The 891 major U.S. printed media outlets from the LexisNexis database quoted Interfax 233 times, RIA Novosti 165 times, and Itar-Tass 113 times.
            The 575 British printed media outlets from the LexisNexis database quoted Interfax 99 times, RIA Novosti 67 times, and Itar-Tass 35 times.
            The 233 German printed media outlets from the LexisNexis database mentioned Interfax 939 times, Itar-Tass 249 times, and RIA Novosti 122 times.
            The 18 French newspapers and magazines from the LexisNexis archive quoted Interfax 149 times, RIA Novosti 134 times, and Itar-Tass 40 times.
            All leading international news agencies quoted Interfax more often than other Russian news agencies.
            According to Factiva, Reuters quoted Interfax‘ English-language stories 538 times, RIA Novosti‘s 462 times, and Itar-Tass‘ 130 times; and Dow Jones mentioned Interfax 740 times, RIA Novosti 547 times, and Itar-Tass 181 times.
            According to the Factiva archive, The Associated Press (AP Newswires) mentioned Interfax 97 times, Itar-Tass 96 times and RIA Novosti 85 times.
            LexisNexis indicates that the Spanish news agency EFE quoted Interfax 309 times (RIA Novosti 150 times and Itar-Tass 117 times), France‘s AFP quotes it 859 times (RIA Novosti 423 and Itar-Tass 220 times) and China‘s Xinhua (General News Services) 1,548 times (RIA Novosti 1,435 times and Itar-Tass 765 times) in 2010.
            The frequency of references to the eight largest news agencies operating in Russia (Interfax, RIA Novosti, Itar-Tass, Reuters, Prime-Tass, RosBusinessConsulting (RBC), Regnum, and Rosbalt) in Russian media outlets was analyzed based on the SCAN system including 3,100 central and regional sources. To ensure impartiality and authenticity, the news agencies‘ own news products were excluded from the study.
           
            The rating is based on the following categories:
            -All Russian media outlets (1,887 sources, excluding online resources)
            -Russian central (Moscow-based) and federal printed media outlets (the 500 or so most authoritative newspapers and magazines)
            -The leading federal TV and radio media outlets (Channel One, Rossiya 1, NTV, Ren-TV, TVC, Radio Russia, Mayak, Golos Rossii, Echo Moskvy, Radio City-FM)
            -Regional media outlets of the most densely populated Russian regions (Bashkortostan, the Volgograd region, the Voronezh region, the Irkutsk region, the Kemerovo region, Krasnodar territory, Krasnoyarsk territory, the Nizhny Novgorod region, the Novosibirsk region, Perm territory, Primorye territory, the Rostov region,

the Samara region, St. Petersburg, the Saratov region, the Sverdlovsk region, the Republic of Tatarstan, Khabarovsk territory, the Chelyabinsk region)

            Interfax maintains the leadership in the citation rating among Russia’s three leading news agencies based on the analysis of the LexisNexis archive’s reports published by foreign printed media outlets.  
            The 847 major world printed media outlets from the LexisNexis database quoted Interfax 11,475 times, RIA Novosti 7,324 times and Itar-Tass 3,084 times in 2010.
            The 891 major U.S. printed media outlets from the LexisNexis database quoted Interfax 233 times, RIA Novosti 165 times, and Itar-Tass 113 times.

            In terms of the overall number of references in all Russian media outlets in 2010, Interfax took the lead with 62,034 hits, RIA-Novosti as mentioned 49,145 times, Itar-Tass 26,863 times, Reuters 22,459 times, RBC 20,241 times, Prime-Tass 9,507 times, Regnum 3,833 times and Rosbalt 3,388 times.
            The most authoritative Russian central (Moscow-based) and federal printed media outlets from the SCAN system cited Interfax 10,370 times, RIA Novosti 7,565 times, Reuters 4,240 times, Itar-Tass 3,194 times, Prime Tass 1,743 times, RBC 832 times, Regnum 177 times, and Rosbalt 153 times.
            The leading federal TV and radio media outlets, including Channel One, Rossiya 1, NTV, Radio Russia, Mayak, Echo Moskvy and others cited Interfax 15,751 times, RIA Novosti 11,373 times, Itar-Tass 8,223 times, Reuters 1,579 times, RBC 991 times, Rosbalt 179 times, Regnum 112 times, and Prime-Tass 85 times in 2010.
            In the regional media category, Interfax was the most cited agency in 14 of 19 most densely populated regions: St Petersburg, Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, Krasnoyarsk, Perm and Khabarovsk territories and the Volgograd, Voronezh, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Rostov, Samara, Saratov and Sverdlovsk regions.
            RIA Novosti came first in five regions: Krasnodar territory, Irkutsk, Nizhny Novgorod and Chelyabinsk regions and Primorye.
