Mishustin proposes setting up EAEU emergency food fund

MOSCOW. June 8 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has proposed that the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries set up an emergency food fund.

"We think it's necessary to establish a full-fledged system for effectively monitoring food sufficiency in all the five [EAEU] countries and set up an emergency food fund. By doing so, we will be able to promptly stabilize the situation if it suddenly becomes necessary," Mishustin said at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council on Thursday.

The EAEU has become completely self-sufficient in terms of grain and vegetable oil, he said.

"This year, we could also achieve other results on a number of items. We need to actively employ this resource and try to do it effectively, especially amid the instability of foreign markets," he said.
