Russian Transport Ministry does not see risks for delivery of goods due to truck restrictions in Poland

MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax) - The ban on the passage of Russian and Belarusian trucks via Poland, which will enter into effect on June 1, will not affect import and export of goods, the Russian Transport Ministry said in a statement.

The Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the day before that Poland would impose a ban on trucks registered in Belarus and Russia starting on June 1.

"This ban will not prompt congestion at checkpoints and on approaches to them. Given the sufficient additional capacity of Russian border terminals, the ban will not cause any difficulties with the transportation of export and import cargo on the European vector," the Transport Ministry press service said.

The ministry said that the ban on Russian and Belarusian trucks to transport goods via Poland was more political than practically necessary.

A similar ban against Russian and Belarusian freight forwarders was already been introduced by the European Union in spring 2022. In October, Russia responded with a reciprocal measure, beginning to apply the practice of transshipment in border areas for further transportation of goods imported from abroad in Russia by local transport companies. The Transport Ministry said that this mechanism "makes it possible to fully ensure the delivery of the required volume and list of goods traveling across the border."
