Bishkek, Tashkent endorse documents on demarcation of Kyrgyz-Uzbek border

BISHKEK. May 29 (Interfax) - Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan endorsed documents on the demarcation of the border between the two countries at negotiations in Samarkand, the Kyrgyz government said in a statement on its website on Monday.

"Joint demarcation commissions have endorsed the legal and technical documents on the demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border," it said.

Kyrgyz and Uzbek government delegations have held negotiations on the demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border in Samarkand, which included meetings between working groups and the first session of the joint demarcation commission, it said.

"The meeting participants discussed the results of joint field surveys at certain sections of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border. Following the meeting of the joint demarcation commission, the parties endorsed legal and technical documents and signed the relevant protocols," it said.

During Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's visit to Bishkek on January 27, the parties signed a protocol on exchanging ratification instruments for an agreement on certain sections of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border. Thus, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have completed the border delimitation process and have started its demarcation.
