Int'l Ski and Snowboard Federation extends suspension of Russian, Belarusian athletes
MINSK. May 24 (Interfax) - The Council of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has approved the further suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes, the FIS press service said on Wednesday.
"The FIS Council held its spring meeting in-person on Wednesday, May 24 ahead of tomorrow's FIS Congress and dealt with a full agenda, including reports from Organizing Committees of the FIS World Championships and Olympic Winter Games, the appointment of technical officials, proposals from the FIS Technical Committees, FIS World Cup calendars and rules updates," the press service said.
"The current FIS policy, which does not allow the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials in FIS events, will remain in effect until further notice," it said.
FIS barred Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions over the Ukraine situation.
The International Olympic Committee recommended on March 28 that international federations allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete if they do not support the special military operation, bear no relation to military sport clubs, and comply with the World Anti-Doping Code.
