Zelensky discusses start of talks on Ukraine's accession to EU with Swedish PM

MOSCOW. May 4 (Interfax) - Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in Helsinki discussed with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

"I discussed in detail with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU," Ukrainian media quoted Zelensky's post on social media on Wednesday evening.

The Ukrainian president also talked to the leaders of Denmark, Finland and Iceland.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Zelensky discussed Denmark's comprehensive support for Ukraine.

"During the meeting with [Finnish Prime Minister] Sanna Marin I discussed the current situation in Ukraine. Thank you for the strong and sustained support of our country and the Ukrainians," the statement said.

Zelensky also thanked Iceland Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdottir for the strong support of the Ukrainian energy sector.

As reported, Zelensky departed for the Netherlands following his visit to Helsinki late on Wednesday.
