EC disburses second tranche of 50 mln euros of support for Moldova

CHISINAU. May 3 (Interfax) - The European Commission has completed the disbursement of a 50 million euros second tranche of Macro-Financial Assistance totaling 150 million euros to Moldova, the EU delegation in Chisinau said on its website.

The Commission disbursed 40 million euros in loans for urgent needs and to expedite reforms on Wednesday. It had already issued 10 million euros of grants on April 5.

The latest payment comes "after the Commission had concluded that Moldova has broadly fulfilled the policy conditions agreed with the EU for the release of the disbursement. Moldova has for instance strengthened public sector governance, made progress on financial sector governance and strengthened the rule of law."

"Macro-Financial Assistance support is part of the wider EU effort to support Moldova in the wake of the multiple challenges over the last years. It will also help Moldova advance on its European path," according to the statement.

A first tranche, also 50 million euros, was disbursed in August 2022.
