New 30,000 car-per-year auto factory launching in Kyrgyzstan with participation of Uzavtoprom
BISHKEK. April 20 (Interfax) - A plant for the production of passenger cars and commercial vehicles is planned in Kyrgyzstan with the support of Uzavtoprom, which unites the enterprises of the Uzbek automobile industry.
Kyrgyzstan's President Sadyr Japarov signed a law by which he ratified the agreement with the government of Uzbekistan, the presidential press service said. The plant will be built in the Chui region (50 km from Bishkek), and at the initial stage it will produce Chevrolet cars and Isuzu commercial vehicles. Project implementation from the Kyrgyz side will be carried out by private companies DT Technik and Nur.
The plant will produce 19 types of vehicles, including minibuses, pickups and sedans, the Kyrgyzstan Economy Ministry said. At the first stage, using the Semi-Knocked-Down (SKD) method, the plan is to produce up to 10,000 units within three years, and in the future to increase production to 30,000 vehicles per year. The project will be implemented using private funds, but if necessary, companies can apply for support from the Kyrgyz-Uzbek Development Fund.
An agreement on cooperation for the production of automotive and commercial vehicles was signed on January 27 in Bishkek following the state visit of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Kyrgyzstan.
Currently, only small volumes of agricultural machinery are produced in Kyrgyzstan.
Uzavtoprom includes more than 20 enterprises. The largest are UzAuto Motors (the main manufacturer of passenger cars in Uzbekistan), SamAvto LLC (produces buses and trucks on Isuzu chassis) and MAN Auto Uzbekistan (produces trucks).
According to information on the website of the National Agency for Investments under the President of Kyrgyzstan, JSC Nur is an industrial complex, the technological capabilities of which make it possible to implement projects of high complexity from the development of design documentation to the assembly and testing of final products.
According to open sources, Nur's primary activity is the production of electrical appliances, and the company has previously cooperated with Uzavtoprom for the supply of components. DT Technik is engaged in the supply of equipment and the wholesale trade in auto parts.
