G7 foreign ministers agree to tighten Russia sanctions - statement

TOKYO. April 18 (Interfax) - The foreign ministers of the G7 countries have agreed to step up economic sanctions to put pressure on Moscow over the situation in Ukraine, according to a statement adopted by the G7 foreign ministers following their meeting in Japan.

"The G7 Foreign Ministers confirmed that they remain committed to intensifying, fully coordinating and enforcing sanctions against Russia, as well as to continuing strong support for Ukraine," the statement said.

They also agreed to enhance coordination to prevent sanctions evasion and third-party weapon supplies to Russia.

The G7 foreign ministers' three-day meeting concluded in Karuizawa, Japan, on Tuesday morning.
