Ukrainian, Romanian border guards to patrol border jointly again

MOSCOW. March 28 (Interfax) - Border guards of the Chernovtsy unit are resuming joint patrols of the state border with units of the Romanian border police, Ukrainian media reported, citing the press service of the Western Regional Department of the Ukrainian State Border Service.

"A meeting has recently taken place at the Porubnoye border checkpoint, where border guards from both countries discussed joint border protection. The parties agreed that joint patrolling will be resumed in early April only on Romanian territory, along the land section of the border," the statement said.

The Ukrainian and Romanian border guards agreed on duty schedules, the use of technical means of border patrols and the procedure for joint actions in case of detention of border violators and smugglers.

The practice of joint patrols was introduced in 2017 as part of an intergovernmental agreement on joint patrols of the Ukrainian-Romanian state border and a protocol of the border services of both countries.
