Japanese PM arrives in Kiev - media

TOKYO. March 21 (Interfax) - Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida arrived in Kiev on Tuesday, Japanese media said.

It is the Japanese prime minister's first visit to Ukraine since the start of the Russian special military operation in February 2022, according to the reports.

The Japanese Foreign Ministry said that Kishida, as the leader of Japan, which holds the G7 presidency in 2023, will demonstrate solidarity and unwavering support for Ukraine.

During the talks in Kiev, Kishida will also voice his resolute opposition to Russia's actions in Ukraine, the ministry said.

Kishida will tell Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky that Japan, as the G7's president, will push for further tight sanctions against Russia, the NHK television channel said.

The Japanese prime minister may also discuss humanitarian assistance and contribution to Ukraine's recovery, the broadcaster said.
