Sberbank's profit may approach pre-crisis levels in 2023 - Gref
MOSCOW. March 9 (Interfax) - Sberbank's profit may approach pre-crisis levels in 2023, but the result will depend on the situation in the economy, Herman Gref, the bank's chief, said.
"As for this year's profit, you have seen the figures, analysts can work it out. You're right, the figures will probably be close to what we were earning before the crisis. At any rate we hope so. Although we live in a time when you always need caveats, and everything will of course depend on the situation in the economy as a whole," he said on a conference call with investors and analysts.
The bank said in a presentation that its return on equity might be around 20% this year.
Sberbank said on Thursday that its net profit to Russian Accounting Standards jumped 3.9-fold to 225 billion rubles in January-February 2023.
It also disclosed financial reporting to International Financial Reporting Standards for 2023, according to which net profit plummeted 78.3% to 270.5 billion rubles, from 1.25 billion rubles in 2021.
