Lukashenko proposes China's FAW manufacture cars in Belarus

MINSK. March 2 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko proposed that Chinese automotive manufacturer FAW start automobile production in Belarus.

"You know why we are interested in you. You make good cars. If you want to, and have a desire to work in Belarus, I am at your service. I would like it if we could produce a real car together with you in Belarus. And if we want to see an effect and have success, it has to happen now, and quite quickly, while the markets and territories for our future products have the space for them," Lukashenko's press service quoted him as saying in Beijing at a meeting with the company's management.

He discussed this project with Chinese President Xi Jinping, he said. "Yesterday, during negotiations with my friend Xi Jinping, I asked him to support my initiative to work with your company. He told me he supported it. This is a state-owned company. I support contacts between Belarusian specialists and the company, and I am ready to help as much needed to develop relations," Lukashenko said.
