All nine NPP units available to Ukraine at work - Energoatom head

MOSCOW. Feb 13 (Interfax) - The Energoatom National Nuclear Energy Generating Company of Ukraine has resumed operation of the last of nine nuclear power plant units available to Ukraine after repairs, which lasted for slightly more than one month.

"All nine units are at work, the connected unit will be loaded overnight, and all units will be running at the nominal capacity," the Ukrainian media quoted Energoatom President Pyotr Kotin as saying during a visit to a nuclear power plant on Saturday.

In his words, the repairs were made within a record short time, about thrice faster than planned. Kotin thanked the NPP collective for their work.

A turbo-generator has been repaired at another unit, which significantly increased the available system capacity, Kotin said, noting that both repairs increased the capacity by 1.2 GW.

Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said, in turn, that such measures tangibly reduced the deficit of electricity and the number of power outages.

"There will be more electricity starting today," Galushchenko said, adding that the NPP collective had done a unique job by completing the repairs within such a short period.
