Poland closing one of 3 checkpoints on border with Belarus

MINSK. Feb 9 (Interfax) - Polish Minister of the Interior and Administration Mariusz Kaminski has ordered that traffic through the Bobrowniki checkpoint on the border with Belarus (Berestovitsa on the Belarusian side) be suspended from February 10.

"For national security reasons, I have decided to suspend traffic through the Bobrowniki checkpoint on the Polish-Belarusian border from noon on February 10 until further notice," Kaminski said on Twitter.

He did not provide further details.

There are two more checkpoints on the Polish-Belarusian border, including one for trucks and the other for cars.

In turn, the Belarusian State Border Committee said it did not receive an official notice from Poland regarding suspended operation of the Bobrowniki checkpoint.

"There have been online reports regarding suspended operation of the Polish Bobrowniki checkpoint (Berestovitsa on the Belarusian side) from February 10. The State Border Committee announces in that connection that the Belarusian side has not received an official notice from the Polish border agency regarding the suspended clearance of vehicles and persons traveling through this checkpoint," it said.

The committee noted that Poland unilaterally suspended traffic through the Kuznica Belostokskaya motor checkpoint (Bruzgi on the Belarusian side) on November 9, 2021.

It noted that six checkpoints used to operate on the Belarusian-Polish border. Three of them are now closed.
