EU ready to consider additional sanctions against Russia - European Council president

BRUSSELS. Jan 20 (Interfax) - European Council President Charles Michel has said that the European Union will continue to draft additional packages of sanctions against Russia despite the fact that such debates are increasingly complicated in the EU.

Every discussion of sanctions is much more difficult than the previous one, the Western media quoted Michel as telling journalists in Kiev on Thursday.

Michel paid an unannounced visit to Kiev ahead of the Ukraine-EU summit due on February 3, the Western media said.

Michel said that this would send a strong message that the EU and Ukraine are together and the sides would agree on their next steps and common objectives. He also said that sanctions should be tightened and involve more countries.
