Moldovan PM dismisses rumors on govt's impending resignation, admits 'heated debates'

CHISINAU. Jan 17 (Interfax) - Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita has denied rumors on the government's impending resignation.

"They're undermining confidence in the authorities from the very start this way," Gavrilita told journalists on Tuesday, urging them "not to believe rumors."

The spreading of rumors on the government's imminent resignation is a tactic pursued by its opponents since the moment of its confirmation, she said.

Gavrilita admitted that there have been "very heated debates" on some points inside the ruling party.

"But this is right in a democracy. We shouldn't be afraid of that. There have always been professionals and honest people in our government, and there are no reasons to think otherwise. I am not saying everything is ideal, especially considering the crisis of 2022. Certainly, it's hard to make decisions in this situation. Changes are not implemented quickly enough, especially in regions where certain interests still have some influence, which needs to be opposed," she said.

Gavrilita described her relations with President Maia Sandu as "very good."

"We have a whole team, there's a parliamentary majority, and the next [parliamentary] elections are in 2025. Even if some reshuffles occur, this won't change the implementation of the agenda with which we've come to power," she said.
