Capacity shortage in Ukraine's energy system declines slightly - Ukrenergo

MOSCOW. Dec 27 (Interfax) - The capacity shortage in Ukraine's energy system has decreased somewhat thanks to a growth of electricity output at power plants, but this amount is still insufficient to cover all needs, partly because of an increase in electricity consumption, the Ukrenergo power grid operator said.

"A unit at one of thermal power plants has been reconnected to the grid following emergency repairs," Ukrainian media said on Tuesday, citing Ukrenergo.

Electricity consumption has grown because damaged power lines are being gradually put back into operation, it said.

"[Electricity] consumption by industrial enterprises is also increasing," Ukrenergo said.

In this context, power usage limits have been introduced in all regions of Ukraine, the company said, adding that it will have to resort to emergency blackouts to balance the energy system if these limits are exceeded.
