Prevention of nuclear incident is sole purpose of talks on Zaporozhye NPP - IAEA head

PARIS/MOSCOW. Dec 22 (Interfax) - International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Rafael Grossi said he had held another round of talks on a safety and security zone around the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant in Moscow.

"Another round of necessary discussions on the creation of a protection zone for the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant," Grossi said on Twitter on Thursday, posting a photo with Rosatom state atomic energy corporation head Alexei Likhachev.

He said his only objective was to prevent a nuclear incident from happening at the Zaporozhye NPP.

"It's key that the zone focuses solely on preventing a nuclear accident. I am continuing my efforts towards this goal with a sense of utmost urgency," Grossi said.

Rosatom said earlier that the closeness of stances of Russia and the IAEA was noted at the consultations on a draft declaration on the establishment of a physical safety and security zone around the Zaporozhye NPP.
