Serious capacity shortage persist in Ukraine's energy system, situation in Kiev remains difficult - Ukrenergo

MOSCOW. Dec 21 (Interfax) - A considerable capacity shortage persists in Ukraine's energy system as of Wednesday morning, the Ukrenergo power grid operator said, adding that power supply curbs are continuing as a result of the damage caused to energy infrastructure.

"[Power] consumption limits have been put in place in all regions because of the shortage, and there will be emergency blackouts if these limits are exceeded," Ukrainian media outlets quoted Ukrenergo as saying in a social media post.

Power generation facilities of all types are operating, but the situation in the central region, including Kiev, remains difficult, it said.

As reported, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said on Tuesday that eight units of nuclear power plants and ten thermal power plants continued to operate. The power deficit in Kiev stood at around 50% as of Tuesday evening, the Yasno power supplier said, adding that it does not expect for now to be able to reinstate scheduled power cuts. Eighty percent of consumers in the Kiev region were left without electricity, the regional military administration said.
